Pitt Stop Detail & Auto Sales Blog

Every time we clean out our own car, we think that this time it’s going to stay that way. However, if you are anything like us, it’s only a matter of time before something gets spilled, something ends up in the seat, and trash piles up in all nooks and crannies of the car. While we can get rid of the dirt and dust, what do you do when there is a bigger issue like a stain or some other mess you need to show a little more attention to? Pitt Stop Detail has tips for you and can help with anything, interior or exterior, that you may need.

Remove the Extra

The first step in getting rid of any stain is to get rid of all the extra dirt that may have piled on top of the stain. This will not only make your car cleaner, but it will also help you focus your efforts directly on the stain itself.

First Attempt

If you can catch it soon enough a microfiber cloth, water, and good ole elbow grease can get a lot of stains out of upholstery and leather-type interiors. If you let them sit, they will penetrate further into your material. If you are unfortunate to hit the summer months, or most months in the southern states, the heat will make the stain even harder to remove.

Second Attempt

You can use everyday items, in more than one form, to remove stains that are proving a little more stubborn. For leather or vinyl seats, you can use a small amount of non-gel toothpaste. Upholstery responds well to a solution of two cups of water with a cup of vinegar and a small amount of dish soap. By spraying, then blotting, the stain can be lifted.

Prevention

Short of removing any makeup, food, small children, or other needed items from your life, you can prevent stains in a few ways. Baby wipes come in resealable containers and are great at removing a number of stains before they have the opportunity to set in. You can also look at a few different sprays for upholstery and leather wipes for leather and vinyl to protect the interior of your car.

We encourage you to work on removing stains yourself and doing quick clean-ups as needed.
